Gaffney Indians Men’s Basketball Tradition

In recent years, the Gaffney Indians have built a tradition around the Basketball team, they boast four (4) State Championships (1949, 2003, 2004, 2005).  In 2005, they became the first 4A school in South Carolina to win three straight State Championships in a row.  Those teams consisted of some of the greatest athletes to ever walk the halls at Gaffney High School. The 2003 State Championship team is regarded by most as the greatest team to ever play at Gaffney.  They finished the season at a perfect 28-0, and were lead by such stars as Sidney Rice (currently in the NFL - Minnesota Vikings), A.Z. Reid (currently in the Italian Pro League), Donald Sims (currently playing for Appalachain State), and Phillip Buckson (currently a minister).  The 2005 State Championship team was award by HoopsUSA as the Traditional School National Champions and held a record of 27-1. In 2009, the Gaffney Indians played for a fifth (5th) State Championship but a late rally in the final minutes fell short which preserved the win for Goose Creek.
